How To Make Your Site Mobile-Friendly For Google
When Google Mobilegeddon was first publicised http://searchenginewatch.com/sew/how-to/2398591/-mobilegeddon-is-coming-on-april-21-are-you-ready the SEO world started panicking.
Put simply, on April 21st 2015, Google is going to be removing sites it considers to be non-mobile friendly from it’s mobile search index. More people search on mobile devices than search on desktops so this may have a major impact on your business and organic traffic if you don’t deal with it!
Fortunately there is a simple fix for sites using WordPress and I’ll share it with you for free because I’m feeling like being a bloody good bloke!
1: Check whether Google considers you site mobile friendly at https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/
2: If not, go to your WP dashboard and search for the plugin “Jetpack”. Install it. Follow the instructions in the Jetpack plugin settings to connect to your WordPress.com account. If you don’t have one, just create one (it’s free).
3: Then select “Activate” on the Mobile Theme option in the Jetpack screen. It takes a few brief moments.
Then return to https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/ and also http://www.browserstack.com/responsive to see if your site is now mobile-responsive. It will be.
Congratulations. You just saved your self from Mobile-geddon!
